AWARDS
Bob & Gill Berry have been nominated for one of 75 awards being presented by the English Folk Dance & Song Society, which has made them feel very honoured that someone should think they have done enough to be recognised for their work.
They however declined the opportunity to drive to London to collect the award as it coincided with a guest night at Devizes. They did feel that this is where they should really be but are grateful for the recognition anyway. Their award will be received by Ted & Ivy Poole, on their behalf, as they too were being given an award. (Now there is a couple that really are due one!!)
These awards are part of The EFDSS's 75th anniversary celebrations.
FOLK DIARY
We will be working on this fairly soon and hope to make it a comprehensive diary for ALL sections of Folk Activity. It will include Folk Song, Dance Ceilidh, Morris, Mumming and others activities such as historical events and fairs, etc.
If you have some dates you want promoting than let us have 'em and we'll do what we can.
We've just got news recently that Sophie Wright has become an occasional writer for the monthly Glossy mag " Wiltshire Life". Hopefully we can get some mainstream publicity into all the newsagents. get a copy if you can and we'll be making some effort to get any stories published on the Wiltshire Folk Arts Website too.
FESTIVAL UPDATES
Finally are you ready for the busiest 3 weekends in the Wiltshire Folk Calendar ?
Firstly, on the 11th - 15th July, we have the Larmer Tree Festival, near Salisbury with a huge range of folk and mainstream acts ( maybe sold out but check their web site for details)
The following weekend it is Trowbridge Village Pump Festival with a great weekend packed full of events, That's on the 19th 22nd July and if that's not enough for you then try the new venue for Womad.(27 - 29th) Charlton Park near Malmesbury just wont know what hit it. Every conceivable style of folk, roots, world, rock and pop to lots of stages and a great weekend guaranteed.
You are probably going to want all of September off so we'll not blitz you with that until the next time.
Cheers and we'll see you in a club or festival field some time. Enjoy the summer
